How I became passionate about helping people live with art.
I studied sociology in my undergrad, so I’ve always had a curiosity about why we live the way we do, and have a lot of thoughts and opinions about our society.
I won’t get into the minutiae of that, it doesn’t really matter what I think, except I’ll say that it all points to this feeling that life is so much more magical and rich and fulfilling than most of us ever get to experience.
There are so many solutions that lead us toward that richer life, yet the one I am continually drawn to, time and again, is art. Art as a place of meaning-making and potential.
When I graduated I immediately started a non profit arts organization to explore the potential I intuitively felt was held within the arts.
I went the generally commonplace route of creating opportunities for artists, and focusing all of my attention on supporting their work. I ran this organization for four years and in that time realized that to truly be effective in supporting artists, I needed to provide them with an engaged audience who understood their work and saw the value in funding it.
This would be a radical change in our mission and in the work we had been created, so I stepped down as ED, had board members take over that organization, and swiveled my attention toward the audience.
What I found in the years following as I began to explore what this new project would look like, was an art world that has completely failed.
It was an art world that catered to very few very wealthy individuals and institutions. An art world that held onto a history of exclusivity and pretensions. The potential for art to transform collector’s lives was totally stunted and I decided to put my attention into subverting it.
Delia LaJeunesse Art Consulting aims to break down the barriers that keep people from starting art collections through a non-pretentious, highly personalized approach.
I have offerings that meet literally any budget, and provide free resources that empower the public to appreciate and engage with art.
This project has been challenging, and in a lot of ways an uphill battle, fighting against decades of established norms in the art world. But it has been immensely fulfilling to put my energy into this mission.
It is such a genuine joy for me to speak with folks who are interested in inviting more art into their homes, offices and lives. Please fill out this application if you’d like to work with me.
