Transforming Spaces with Purpose
Art can be an afterthought.
As someone who loves art as much as I do, this is painful to admit. But! We gotta face the hard things.
Truthfully, this reality has opened up a lot of opportunities for me as an art consultant to step into a supportive role where I can guide both my design partners, and my 1-1 clients, through the overwhelming process of acquiring art, so that they can experience the profound benefits of incorporating art into their designs, without the stress.
I find that a lot of clients are too overwhelmed or intimidated to curate their own art collection, and a lot of interior designers are pulled in a hundred directions at once. Often, designers simply don’t have the time, resources or knowledge base to curate art in their designs.
This makes complete sense to me, I can’t even fathom being an interior designer and so seamlessly pulling together so many moving parts into a cohesive and personalized design. As art is an essential aspect of all spaces, working with designers to meaningfully incorporate art into these projects has been mutually beneficial, and really personally fulfilling for me.
As designers, you understand the power of creating atmospheres. The vibe has to be right, and art plays a profound role in setting that tone. Art is a crucial component to creating the emotional resonance of a space. Studies consistently demonstrate that well-curated and meaningful art positively impacts the emotional well-being of occupants.
An art curator should design their services to enrich your offerings to your client by curating meaningful art that enhances your designs. Let me share two ways I can do that for you.
Understanding Client Preferences
Art is intensely personal. All aspects of design are personal, but art is what people are going to be asked to tell stories about. They need to be able to draw from a personal connection to the piece. Their personality, values, story and preferences is essential when curating art. Collaborating with an art consultant brings this level of personalized connection without any extra effort on your part.
Aligning Art with Design Styles
Integrating art into various design styles ensures a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic. Whether it's contemporary, traditional, or eclectic, diverse art styles can complement and enhance different design concepts, elevating the overall design.
Often a client has existing art work that they are attached to, that doesn’t quite fit with the new design direction their space is going in. Adding new art works to serve as a bridge can be an effective way to manage the tension created between an emotional connection to a piece of art, and a completely different design style.
If you are an interior designer who might benefit from working with me, please send me an email letting me know what you’re working on and how I can support.
I’ll need to know how many pieces or areas you are looking to acquire art for, what your clients overall art budget is, the rough measurements of the space we are placing art in, and your design direction.
Any information you share about your design is helpful when I curate portfolios for you. I especially find photos to be useful, but if you’re at the beginning stages, any notes you have on the project, client preferences etc. is beneficial.
You can send me an email here to get the process started and I’ll provide you with a quote.
